About the doctor
Thirty years learning when to say yes, and when to say no.
I am Juan José Méndez Treviño, a plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgeon. I was born in Coahuila, studied medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila and trained as a general surgeon at Hospital Regional Dr. Juan Graham Casasús before completing my specialty in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at UNAM, at Hospital General Dr. Rubén Leñero in Mexico City.
In 1996 I founded Clínica ICER, the Institute of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, in Mexico City; in 1998 I opened the Saltillo office, and in 2013 we added dermatology to create ICER-D. Today I practice in both cities and, in Mexico City, I also work with the CETRANS team in gender-affirming surgery.

My daughter, Dr. Yolotzin Méndez, is a plastic surgeon trained in Rio de Janeiro and a partner in the clinic. We often operate together and share the same way of working: an honest consultation, an accredited hospital and personal follow-up. Learn about her practice.
How I work
- A complete consultation. Medical history, physical examination and a frank conversation about expectations. If they are already selling you a surgery date at the first visit, be wary.
- Safety without shortcuts. A licensed hospital, a board-certified anesthesiologist present and surgical times within safe ranges.
- A written quote. Surgeon's fees, hospital, anesthesia, supplies, implants and follow-up visits, with no surprises.
- A timely no. When a procedure is not in your best interest, I say so. It is the part of the job that takes the most experience.
